Tur domáci (lat. Bos primigenius f. Taurus) je domestikovaný párnokopytník chovaný po celom svete pre jeho mnohostranný hospodársky úžitok. Spoločne s kurou domácou je to najpočetnejší druh chovaného hospodárskeho zvieraťa.
Názov
Synonymom názvu tur domáci je označenie dobytok. Samica po otelení sa nazýva krava. Tá, ktorá ešte nerodila, je jalovica. Samec sa nazýva býk, vykastrovaný býk sa označuje slovom vôl. Plemená
Na svete existuje asi 450 plemien dobytka. Podľa pôvodu sa delia na plemená odvodené od európskeho pratura (taurinný hovädzí dobytok) a na plemená odvodené od pratura indického (zebu).
Využitie
V poľnohospodárstve sa dobytok chová pre mäso, mlieko, kožu (výroba topánok), kosti (výroba mydiel), v minulosti aj ako pracovná sila pri ťahaní nákladov a poľných prácach. V Afrike sa na voloch dokonca jazdí. Mäso z tura domáceho sa nazýva hovädzie, z mláďat do pol roka veku je teľacie.
Chov
Najstarším spôsobom chovu dobytka je pastierstvo, často kočovné, pri ktorom je dobytok chovaný celoročne vonku a živí sa výhradne prirodzenou pastvou. Kočovní pastieri s dobytkom putujú krajinou, aby zabránili devastácii krajiny nadmerným vypásáním. Dobytok je pomerne náročný na kvalitu krmu a potrebuje napájadlá, preto ho nemožno pásť v púštnych a polopúštnych oblastiach. Ak sa narodia dvojčatá rozdielneho pohlavia, jalovička často býva neplodná a nazýva sa býčica. Hmotnosť novorodenca sa líši v závislosti od plemena. Teľa pri narodení váži priemerne 45 kg, má výšku 75 cm a dĺžku 66 cm. Pohlavnú dospelosť dosahujú jedince vo veku 7 - 12 mesiacov, telesnú dospelosť od 4 - 5 rokov.
Výživa
Tur domáci je prežúvavec. Má 3 predžalúdky - bachor, čepiec a knihu a vlastný žalúdok slez. Potravu prijímajú vo veľkých množstvách a v ústnej dutine ju nestihnú dôkladne požuť. Po prehltnutí putuje potrava do bachora, potom sa vracia cez čepiec do úst na ďalšie prežutie. Potom ju ešte raz prehltne a potrava sa dostáva do knihy a z nej do vlastného žalúdka - slezu.
